Christmas Scrapbook Page Idea: The Joy of Toys

Oh my gosh, I am so excited. For those of you reading my blog if you haven’t looked at my Santa Was Here Christmas Scrapbook Page, check it out. I won the weekly challenge at Crop Stop. I won a $15.00 gift card to the crop stop store, so I guess it really does pay off to enter challenges, no matter what you think of your work because others may enjoy it as much as you do.

Anyways, on to today’s scrapbook page layout. This is a Christmas scrapbook page of my son opening his toys at Christmas.

100_1418

This Christmas, 2009, was a very special Christmas for me and my husband. We had to relocate due to him losing his job right before the holidays and were still struggling to make ends meet. When we realized we weren’t going to have enough money for our kids at Christmas, we decided to hit the local yard sales in the area to find nice toys. The lord really blessed us. We found brand new v-tech toys, transformers and DVDs people were getting rid of because their children didn’t play with them. Our kids had the biggest Christmas yet and we didn’t spend, but maybe $50.00. The funniest part of this Christmas is the fact we didn’t have any boxes to put the toys in, so we went to the local liquor store and got boxes for the gifts. THANK GOD THEY COULDN’T READ! Haha, everyone laughed and cried, but it was such a great Christmas.

I used several different papers in this challenge, but the real treat was the cricut cuts outs I placed on the scrapbook page. I used the Joys of the Season Cricut cartridge and made the holly leaves and the garland wreaths in the top left and bottom right of the page. The garland is just a wreath I cut using the cricut and then I cut it in half.

I am also entering this in several challenges:

Kaboodle Doodle – Christmas Colors

Lexi Creations – Anything for a man/boy

Lollipop Crafts – Color: Red/Cream/Chocolate Brown

Paper Playtime – Cricut Image and Buttons

The Pink Elephant – Snowflakes and Sparkle

I hope you enjoyed the layout and beautiful story as much as I enjoyed making the memories and scrapping them.

Love, Jess

Christmas Scrapbook Page Idea: Santa Was Here

Hello Everyone

I know I took a few weeks off, but I’m back now for the rest of the year. I decided to spend a little time with my family over the Thanksgiving break because there were so many lovely family members and friends visiting. It was a great Thanksgiving and I had a lot to be thankful for and I hope yours was as good as mine.

Now, on with the eye-candy for today’s post. This is a Christmas scrapbook page idea that I made from a sketch that was provided on the Sweet Sunday Sketch blog this week. I tweaked the sketch just a tiny bit. When you see my Christmas scrapbook page you will notice a small ornament to the right of the page, in the sketch it was supposed to be a flower of some sort. Oh, well….I guess I just wanted to be different.

100_1410

I absolutely love this scrapbook page photo of my son Riley with Santa Clause. The reason why he has such as weird look on his face in because Santa caught him by surprise. Every year in December, around the second or third week of the month, the local fire department here in Richmond Hill, Georgia comes brings Santa around on the fire truck to give out candy canes to the kids in all the neighbor hoods in the area. It is so awesome. Riley was almost asleep when Santa came to visit.

I used several different Christmas scrapbook papers by several different companies to get the layered effect on the page. I cut out the circles using a fiskars circle cutter and made them look like ornaments using a cuttle bug die cut. The die cut I used was actually a decorative square punch that I cut down to look like the top of an ornament ball. The scalloped punch running next to the 2009 is a snowflake punch by Martha Stewart and the photograph of my scrapbook page doesn’t do it justice, it is beautiful.

I will also be entering this challenge into several scrapbook page challenges for the week.

I hope all of you reading this get some Christmas scrapbook page ideas to show off your most memorable photographs of the holiday season. Thanks for viewing and get to scrappin’ those scrapbooks and keepsakes.

Scrapbook Page Ideas: Black and White with Polka Dots and Stripes

I really love all of the wonderful people who have been reading my blog and leaving such uplifting comments. Every week I see my homemade cards and scrapbook pages getting better and better and it is because all of the wonderful support from those reading my blog.

For my first scrapbook page this week (sorry it’s late) I combined several challenges that were available on other sites. Even mixing the different challenges turned into a beautiful baby girl scrapbook page of Braelynn. Here is the finished product.

100_1395

I know there is a lot going on here, but I am entering this page into six different challenges. Here’s what the rules of requirement were for each challenge I entered.

365 Cards Blog – You had to use three different “R” items on your page or card. I used ribbon, rick rack and rhinestones; which are kind of hard to see in the photo, but are located in the left corner of the page next to the rick rack.

All Sorts Challenge Blog – For this challenge you were required to use the colors black and white in combination with one other color. The other color I chose was lime green.

Crazy 4 Challenges Blog – This was any anything goes challenge.

Secret Crafter Blog – In this challenge you had to feature spots and stripes on your page. I didn’t have any striped paper in a color combination that would work well for this page, so I created my own with a plaid maker from Stampin’ Up. My daughter is also wearing a black and white polka dot shirt, which I thought went well with the theme.

Sketch Saturday – This was a challenge that required you to follow a certain sketch or layout for the scrapbook page you were creating. I think the sketch turned out well.

Andrea’s Stampin’ Moments Blog – This is where the lime green came into play and why I chose that color over other colors. The challenge required you to use black, white and lime green in your scrapbook layout or homemade greeting card.

I hope you all enjoyed

looking or viewing this scrapbook page as much as I enjoyed making it and displaying it. Now get to scrappin’ those scrapbooks and keepsakes.

Scrapbook Page Idea – Baby Girl Easter Egg Hunt

So I know, I know. Everyone has Christmas Scrapbook Pages on the brain, but I was really tired of looking at Christmas this

early in the season, so I decided to make a scrapbook page that involved some of my favorite photographs. This Easter scrapbook page featuring my baby girl is so beautiful and really fun. It doesn’t feature any special papers or scrapbook embellishments, but it still looks great. Here is the finished product.

100_1378

The colors used in this picture were for a challenge: Colour Create – I was really excited when I saw this set of colors on a challenge for this time of year, so I had to take part – even though I wasn’t going to create a Christmas themed card. The colors required for this challenge were deep pink, turquoise and ivory.

I fulfilled the deep pink requirement with the 12x12 page I used. I highlighted the pictures with turquoise and the printed paper was an ivory base with all three colors mixed in with the printed flowers.

I tried to fill in space with buttons. I didn’t want to over do any of the embellishments because the printed paper was busy enough. I’ll be trying to enter a challenge 2 to 3 times a week because I really need to get on the ball with all of this beautiful card making and scrapbooking stuff we have.

Over time my scrapbook pages and creations are getting better and I’m really excited to see how much better I can get. Mom is still teaching me stuff everyday.

Thank for those who looked. Now get to scrappin’ those scrapbooks and keepsakes

Scrapbook Page Challenge: Playing in the Mud

This week I decided to enter a scrapbook challenge at The Color Throw down Blog. The challenge was to create a scrapbook page or card using three specific colors: old olive, baja breeze and crumb cake. I decided to use some pictures of me and the kids playing in the mud after a rainstorm. It actually turned out better than I thought.

I struggled with this challenge believe it or not. I don’t usually choose colors like this and because I struggled with the colors I struggled with putting the page together. That is the reason I picked this challenge this week, it got me out of my comfort zone and I am very pleased with the results of my scrapbook page creation.

100_1374

I think the page turned out really, really well. All of the scrapbook page embellishments are made using the cricut cutter. I made the letter “M” using the “Day at the Zoo” cricut cartridge and the brown background that looks like a mud puddle behind the pictures is a border from the cricut cartridge “Paper Lace”.

The “day at the zoo” cartridge has really cute lettering as well as cut outs for animals. The “paper lace” cartridge is very feminine and elegant, a great choice for girly pages.

The letters that spell “mud” are chipboard letters and give the page a nice three-dimensional or raised effect. I’ve been wanting to use these pictures for awhile and struggled with a color scheme to use, but I think that this turned out really nice. Let me know what you guys think.

Scrapbook Challenge: Anything Goes – Purple Baby Girl Scrapbook Page

I had so much fun with the challenge this week. The challenge is for the Come and Get It blog and since it is the 5th week of the month you can make whatever you want – anything goes. I had some beautiful baby girl photos that I’ve been wanting to scrapbook, so I thought….”Why not kill two birds with one stone.” Here is my challenge scrapbook page entry

100_1368

Isn’t this such a beautiful page. Sometimes I think that less is really more. I see so many cluttered scrapbook pages and while some look nice, others are so cluttered you forget that you are really supposed to be looking at the picture, not the embellishments. The papers I used are K&Company. I draped purple and black ribbon across the bottom portion of the page and the purple on the tag at the bottom is a plum colored paint chip. So run to your local hardware store ladies, you can use those colored paint strips for scrapbooking.

Let me know what you think and get to scrapping those scrapbooks and keepsakes.

Scrapbook Layouts: Halloween Challenge Page

This is Mom’s challenge page and she was so excited about this scrapbook page, not to mention it turned out fantastic. Mom’s Halloween scrapbook page layout came together very quickly, which is unusual for her. She says doing these challenges helps her focus in one area instead of trying to decide what to work on, the challenge makes that call for you. Mom incorporated all of her elements into the page that she drew and the paisley pattern she blended in nicely with the page by cutting out paisley birds with a FISKARS PAISLEY PAPER PUNCH and using paisley printed paper from K & Company. To read more about what Mom needed to place on her scrapbook page to complete her challenge you can read the challenge post Here.

100_0993 (300x225)

ITEMS NEEDED:
Fiskars 1298937797 Fiskars 12" Personal Paper Trimmer, 10-Sheet Capacity, 12" Cut Length
K and Company Striped Paper
K and Company Halloween Embellishments
Fiskars Paisley Paper Punch
Paisley Paper

HOW IT WAS MADE:

Mom is out of town right now, so I will post more on how she made this page when she gets home this weekend. We usually make notes to organize and list products that we use and how we make a page, but I can’t find the list Mom made on her messy desk.
Check out scrapbook page layout I created for this challenge HERE using the birthday theme, pink and plaid. It actually turned out really nice. Remember to post a link to your challenge page if you created one using what Mom drew out of her basket and let us know what you think about it in the comments section.

Scrapbook Layouts: Birthday Girl Scrapbook Page

First off before I show the picture of the scrapbook pages Mom and I have made this week I want to apologize to everyone that has visited the blog this week looking for our challenge scrapbook pages. Mom and I missed a whole week of work because my computer’s motherboard and battery went out. The technician should have been here to fix my computer the next day, but instead it took almost a week to get my parts in. By the time I got my computer fixed I had to make up for lost time at work. I need my computer for our scrapbook blog as well as my work, so I was way behind. Without further ado, here is my challenge that should have been posted last week. If you don’t remember the challenge check out the blog post HERE.

100_0992 (300x225)

I must admit this page was an absolute nightmare for me to finish. I tried three different layouts with different scrapbook papers and page layouts before I finally decided on this page. My problem wasn’t incorporating the themes which were birthday and playtime because I had the perfect pictures to incorporate both, but with the plaid theme that I choose. I had to incorporate pink and plaid… I was excited about the color pink (it’s my favorite color), but I wasn’t excited about incorporating plaid into my scrapbook page layout…..I HATE plaid and I couldn’t get a layout to look right with plaid. When I finally put this page together, which was very simple, I was very happy with it! Sometimes less is more with a scrapbook page.

Items Needed:

Fiskars 1298937797 Fiskars 12" Personal Paper Trimmer, 10-Sheet Capacity, 12" Cut Length
Cre8-a-Page 8.5x11 Fluorescent/Neon Cardstock Multi-Color Pack, 25 Sheets, 5 Colors Card Stock
Cricut Cartridge, Paper Lace

I didn’t really use any particular items for this birthday girl scrapbook page because it’s mainly hot pink and neon green cardstock and a generic pink plaid paper from Michaels that I picked up a couple of months ago when they had their paper on sale. For more about saving money at Michaels and A.C. Moore check out my previous post about looking for coupons in the Sunday paper Here.

The only popular product that I did use for the main embellishments on this page was the CRICUT PAPER LACE CARTRIDGE. I used the Paper Lace cartridge for the title and the pink and white flower cut out on the bottom-right corner of the scrapbook pages main photograph.

HOW IT WAS MADE:

I started off with a 12x12 plain white background. On the white background I cut a piece of 12x12 pink plaid scrapbook paper down to fit 3/4 of the page, but left the white background peeking around the edges about a quarter of an inch to add a little dimension and bring out the white in the plaid and white lettering I added later. I cut a two inch strip of hot pink cardstock and glued it to the left side of the page and covered the seam with a piece of two inch neon green cardstock overlapping the hot pink and plaid paper.
I printed these photos from a computer program and with my printer, so that I could adjust the size of my pictures to perfectly fit the layout. The small pictures were glued to the green strip, creating a movie reel look, and were according to my photo editing program “thumb print” size. I covered the edges of the photos and green paper to make them look as if they were connected to one another with neon green ribbon that has a white stitched edge down each side.
The last things I added were the embellishments made with the PAPER LACE CRICUT CARTRIDGE. I cut the individual letters out at 1 or 1 1/2” I can’t remember which. For some reason I can’t get the setting right to make capital letters on this cartridge, so if anyone can give me a heads up let me know in the comments section. I tried every setting for every letter and couldn’t get it to work so that’s why the letters for the “Birthday Girl” titled scrapbook page are all lower-cased. The flower was cut out in pink at 3” and 2 1/2” in white cardstock. The flower is on page 36 of the PAPER LACE instruction manual and the buttons that should be pressed on your CRICUT MACHINE are “Flower 7” followed by the “Base Shadow” button on the left side of the key pad. I then placed a green number two sticker in the center of the flower cut out to symbolize how old my little girl was in this picture.
Leave your comments on what you think of the layout. I think it turned out great! Don’t forget to add a link to your challenge if you made one for this challenge too. Feel free to give us any pointers, what you would’ve added or how much you like it.
Now get to scrappin’ those scrapbooks and keepsakes.

New Scrapbook Challenge

If you haven’t been following our blog, recently Mom and I decided to do our own challenge every week. We draw strips of paper from a bowl with different theme, colors and tools we have to incorporate into our scrapbook layout. To read more about our first challenge and how we came up with the idea read more here. You can also view our previous scrapbook challenge from last week here Beach Theme or Grandkids Theme.

100_0986 (300x225)
This week Mom and I dumped all the categories into one basket. So the color, theme, embellishments and tools are all together. We both picked out five different strips of paper from the basket and the picture above is what we have to do a scrapbook page on for next Friday.

VIEW THE FINISHED CHALLENGE PAGES HERE: Mom's Halloween Page and My Birthday Page.

Mom:

  • Paisley
  • Glitter
  • Kids
  • Halloween
  • Stripes
Me:
  • Playtime
  • Birthday
  • Bo Bunny
  • Pink
  • Plaid
I’m very excited to see how Mom incorporates paisley with Halloween because we have to use all five categories in our scrapbook page layouts. I have to incorporate two themes, but thank God I didn’t draw two random themes. It will be a challenge to put this page together with the embellishments and tools, but not with the themes because there is always playtime at a birthday party.
Come back next Friday to see the pages Mom and I make for this challenge and don’t forget to join in. Now, get to scrappin’ those scrapbooks and keepsakes.
